Another change of scene in Mosta valley

Easily accessible from the main road leading to Naxxar on the outskirts of Mosta, Wied il-Għasel offers diverse climbing in a tranquil and sheltered setting. The MRCC chose the White Walls area for their morning practice on Sunday, and led most of the climbs on this crag, from Toledo’s Triumph E1 5b to Anuder Android E1 5a. They even added another to the list!

Cheryl , Miriam and Nina (Austrian climber living in Sheffield!) first top roped Toldedo’s Triumph, then succeeded in leading it once Andrew had been up it and left the gear in place. Mariella and (the other) Andrew made incredible efforts on their first attempt to top rope a 5b route. Edward also led his first 5b route on sight, Quiver E2 5b, while Kurt, Andrew and Roland led the harder Paranoid Eyes E2 5c and Andrew led Riff Raff E3 5c.

To round off the morning, Andrew led a new trad route which he called Nina Technology E1 5a. This goes up just L of Strong Persuader E3 6a. Austrian climber Nina spotted the line and suggested a top-rope ascent. After she and Andrew both got up it, the temptation to add another line and get Nina’s name into the next guidebook was too great. Andrew led the line on condition that he named it after the spotter. Nina does research at Sheffield Uni (right there in the heart of the Peak District!), but sadly not in Nano technology…
